LaCie on Tuesday revealed its latest storage solution, the Network Space 2 Network Attached Storage (NAS) and media server. Again designed by Neil Poulton like many of LaCie's similar products, the Network Space 2 is user friendly thanks to the preloaded LaCie Network Assistant. This allows users to customize the dashboard with widgets, which let them access networks and drive information as well as user accounts and drive capacity.

The device can stream multimedia files to any UPnP/DLNA compliant devices, including Sony's PlayStation 3 or Microsoft's Xbox 360 gaming consoles. iTunes server software lets Mac or PC users play content directly from the drive instead of their local iTunes libraries. An included Download Machine lets users download multiple BitTorrents without the need for a PC.

There is a gigabit Ethernet and a USB 2.0 connection, while the front-mounted USB 2.0 port lets users connect a USB thumb drive, external hard drive or digital camera again without the computer being turned on.

For preserving energy, users have the option of turning off the light on the drive or put it into a low-power setting at scheduled times or when the product is inactive. It can be woken up thanks to the Wake-on-LAN connection.

The LaCie Network Space 2 can be had in a 1TB capacity in Europe now, with worldwide availability slated for later this year. Pricing has not been announced.
